Lohja

A small rectangular, 2 storey residence with an attached warehouse storage space located in Lohja, Finland. The brief from the client was to create a glazed external/internal space which would be an extension to the living space, especially in the summer, whilst keeping within their budget.

The clients wanted to move away from a traditional Finnish design and include a more modern and up-to-date look, with several options presented.

STATUS: DESIGN PROPOSAL

From my discussions with the clients I isolated two issues with their current home that they wanted to address; a larger entrance area with storage space and an entertaining area which could be used, primarily in the summer, as an extension of what they currently have. The floor to eaves glazed curtain walls adds views and a connection to nature, with sliding doors providing the external terrace to become part of the space in the summer. Additional storage can be added under the external terrace for items such as gardening equipment.

A glazed roof area was also considered, however this presented structural and budgetary issues in which the client chose to have a solid roof to match the existing.
